Synthesis of Oxovanadium(IV) Schiff base Complexes derived from C‐substituted Diamines and Pyridoxal‐5‐Phosphate as Antitumor Agents

Abstract: Oxovanadium (IV) complexes of N,N¢-bispyridoxyl-5, 5¢-bis (phosphate) ethylenediimine (L1) and N,N¢-bis(pyridoxyl)-5,5¢-bis(phosphate)-1¢¢-(p-nitrobenzyl)ethylenediimine (L2) were synthesized by condensation of optically active C-substituted diamines and pyridoxal-5-phosphate. Oxovanadium (IV) complexes derived from L1 and L2 were evaluated as DNA cleavage agent (cleavage of supercoiled plasmid pBR322 DNA). Interestingly, both the oxovanadium (IV) complexes exhibited DNA nuclease activity, and the extent of ox… Show more

“…The samples were analyzed by electrophoresis for 2h at 90 V in tris-boric buffer containing 0.8% agarose gel. The gel was stained with 0.1 µg/mL DuRed nucleic acid gel stain and photographed under UV light on an Alpha Innotech IS-5500 fluorescence chemiluminescence and visible imaging system [19,20,31].…”

“…The photoinduced cleavage activity of supercoiled pBR322 DNA by the oxovanadium complexes was studied by performing agarose gel electrophoresis experiment, pBR322 DNA (0.1 μg) was treated with the complexes in buffer 2 in different concentrations, and the solutions were incubated at 37˚C in the incubator for 1 h. The samples were analyzed by electrophoresis for 2 h at 90 V in tris-boric buffer containing 0.8% agarose gel. The gel was stained with 0.1 μL/ml DuRed nucleic acid gel stain and photographed under UV light on an Alpha Innotech IS-5500 fluorescence chemiluminescence and visible imaging system [38] [39].…”

“…Schiff bases are reported to possess various biological activities, such as antibacterial [1,2] and antitumour activities. [3,4] Metal complexes with Schiff bases as ligands have played important role in the development of coordination chemistry due to their preparative accessibility, structural variety, and biological properties. [5--7] Interest is still high as few have found their way into application as therapeutic drugs, health, skin care products and in paint dye manufacturing.…”
