Synthesis of PMMA-b-PEG-b- PMMA by controlled Polymerization Using Macro-RAFT Agents

Abstract: In this work controlled radical polymerization (CRP) of methyl methacrylate was carried out in the presence of the Poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) xanthate reversible addition fragmentation (RAFT) chain transfer agent designated as (CTA 1) and (CTA 2). Firstly, PEGs having different molecular weights (400 and 600 g/mol) were reacted KOH and CS 2 and the terminated 4-chloro benzoyl chloride to obtain PEG-xathates. RAFT agent possessing PEG chain was used in the RAFT polymerization of MMA to yield PMMA-b-PEG-b-PMMA t… Show more

“…In the 1 H-NMR spectra of the block copolymers, the -CH 2 protons in the polytetrahydrofuran structure is about at 1-2 ppm, the oxybonded CH 2 protons in the polytetrahydrofuran structure is between the 3-3.5 ppm, and the -CH protons in the aromatic structure are between the 7.5 and 8 ppm. 13 C-NMR (CDCl 3 ): In the 13 C-NMR spectra of MADIX agent shows -CH 2 groups is 23 ppm, solvent and -CH 2 groups is 40 ppm, -OCH groups is 75 ppm, The -CH groups in the aromatic ring is 130 ppm, the C=O groups is 135 ppm, and the C=S groups is 170 ppm. Comparison of experimental and theoretical FT-IR spectra of PS-b-PTHF-b-PS triblock copolymers (Fig.…”

“…In recent years, significant developments have occurred in the synthesis chemistry, such as the ability to obtain innovative polymeric materials [2,3], by controlling molecular properties [4,5], chain length distribution, stereogenicity, copolymer composition, block copolymer alignment, lengths and functional group addition [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Controlled/living radical polymerization (CRP) are known as living polymerization techniques [12][13][14]. The CRP mechanisms consist of different polymerization mechanisms which are used to obtain polymers with controlled molecular weight growth and a narrow molecular weight distribution [15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…PEG-based polymers are desirable materials of biomedical, industrial, and chemicals applications thanks to PEG's unique features (Erciyes et al, 1992;Adams, et al, 2003;Riess, 2003;Gacal, et al, 2006;Öztürk and Hazer, 2010;Çatıker, et al, 2020). Syntheses of block or graft copolymers were fullfilled because of their enuque properties (Ruzette and Leibler, 2005;Öztürk, et al, 2011;Altintas et al, 2011;Bolton and Rzayev, 2012;Öztürk, Kayğın, et al, 2016;Öztürk, Cakmak et al, 2019;Bağlan et al, 2018;. The capability of amphiphilic block copolymers is owing to their chemical composition, which is described by a hydrophilic block chemically related to a hydrophobic block (Çatıker, et al, 2020).…”

“…RAFT polymerization technique is the latest development of the controlled free-radical polymerization method. And this method is a powerful technique for macromolecular synthesis (Chiefari, Chong et al, 1998;Patton, Mullings, et al, 2005;Yang, Chai et al, 2011;Öztürk, Atalar et al, 2013;Robin, Wilson et al, 2013;Schmidt and Barner-Kowollik, 2013;Bağlan et al, 2018). The usefulness of the method has been demonstrated by its compatibility with many various monomers and reaction conditions (Xie, Dang et al, 2008).…”
