Synthesis of PCL‐branched P(MMAcoHEMA) to toughen electrospun PLLA fiber membrane

Abstract: Electrospun biodegradable fiber mesh is a promising alternative scaffold for delivering progenitor cells for repairing damaged or diseased tissue, but its cripple mechanical stability has not met the requirement of tissue engineering yet. In this work, the well-defined poly(ε-caprolactone)-branched poly(methyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) (PCL-PMH) has been successfully synthesized to toughen electrospun poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) fiber membrane. Characterization of the obtained nanofibrous meshes ind… Show more

“…As shown in Fig. (A), the peaks around 0–0.4 ppm (a) and 6 ppm (b) are ascribed to the protons of methyl groups attached to the silicon atom (–Si–CH 3 ) and the methine proton of vinyl (CH=CH 2 ), while the signals at 1.2–1.4 ppm (e), 1.6–1.7 ppm (d), 2.4 ppm (c) and 4.1 ppm (f) are assigned to methylene protons of the CL unit, indicating that PMVS has been incorporated into the PCL chain. Comparing to Fig.…”

“…Polymeric molecular weight and its distribution were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC, Waters 410 system, USA) with a Waters Styragel HT4 and HT3 columns and a Waters 2414 refractive index detector. 23 Chloroform was selected as eluent at a flow rate of 1.0 mLÁmin À1 at 35 C. Polystyrene with narrow molecular weight distribution was used as standard for calibration.…”

“…where ΔH m was the melting enthalpy of PLLA, ΔH c was the cold crystallization enthalpy of PLLA, and ΔH 0 m was 93.7 JÁg À1 , which was referred to the melting enthalpy of 100% crystalline PLLA, 23,24 and 4.79 ppm were corresponding to the proton shifts of CH (H 7 ), and 5.87 ppm and 5.46 ppm were attributed to chemical shifts of NH (H 6 ), confirming that DOPO coupled with HPS. 26 Figure 1(D) exhibited the 1 H-NMR spectra of the resulting product.…”
