“…The permeation performance of a TFC membrane highly depends on its physicochemical and structural characteristics such as the thickness and crosslinking density of the PA layer, the complex interior free volumes, the surface charge, and hydrophilicity of the membrane 50 53 . In the case of TFN membranes, the surface and bulk properties of the incorporated nanomaterials as well as their interaction with the host polymer matrix have also a significant influence on the final transport properties of the TFN membranes.…”

“…The flux enhancement was attributed to the fast reaction between hydroxyl group of 2-propnaol and the acid chloride monomer, polarity change of the aqueous system, swelling of the PA layer. Recently, Khorshidi et al [291] used ethanol, ethylene glycol, and xylitol as co-solvents in the MPDA aqueous solution to prepare TFC membranes. The results showed that addition of ethanol and ethylene glycol significantly improved water flux of the synthesized membranes.…”

“…An ultra-thin film (from 10 nm to several μm thick) could be quickly formed at the polymer-substrate interface and attached to the substrate. The structural morphology of the membranes created with this method can be controlled by concentration of monomers, reaction time, solvent type, and post-treatment conditions [ 66 , 67 ]. For instance, Wang et al prepared a triple-layered composite NF membrane by the interfacial polymerization of diamine and acyl chloride on a cellulose nanocrystal interlayer for water desalination ( Figure 1 b) [ 58 ].…”
