Structure D 2000Synthesis, Structure, Optical Properties, and Electronic Structure of NaLiCdS2.-The new compounds NaLiCdS 2 and NaLiZnS 2 are synthesized from mixtures of Na2S, M (M: Cd, Zn), Li2S, and S (773 K, 3 d) and characterized by single crystal XRD. Both compounds crystallize in the trigonal space group P3m1 with Z = 1 (Ce2O2S-type structure). The structure of NaLiCdS2 consists of two-dimensional ∞ 2 [LiCdS2] layers formed by corner-sharing LiS4 or CdS4 tetrahedra. The Na atoms are between these layers. Polarized single crystal optical measurements indicate an indirect optical band gap of 2.37 eV in good agreement with DFT calculations. -(DENG, B.; CHAN, G. H.; HUANG, F. Q.; GRAY, D. L.; ELLIS, D.
