Systems optimisation of an active thermal management system during engine warm-up

Abstract: Active thermal management systems offer a potential for small improvements in fuel consumption that will contribute to upcoming legislation on carbon dioxide emissions. Burke et al 9,10 also tested modified cooling and oil circuits and obtained a 2%-4% fuel consumption reduction on NEDC with a small NOx penalty.
