This study examined the effectiveness of tai chi and qigong on weight loss by summarizing the results of several studies that compared these Chinese exercises. Some studies found that tai chi and qigong were significantly more effective in weight reduction than traditional exercises. One study specifically compared tai chi, ba duan jin, yijinjing, Shaolin neigong, liu zi jue, and other exercises, revealing that certain exercises were better suited for specific outcomes. Tai chi was most effective at improving CD4+ and NK cell levels, while ba duan jin excelled at enhancing CD3+ and CD8+ cell levels. Additionally, Mawangdui Dao Yin and Da Wu exercises were shown to reduce triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), while also increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) to some extent.
