“…Among its various effects, the primary purposes of contemplative pedagogy are to heighten focus, mindfulness, and interpersonal connection (Barbezat & Bush, 2013), all of which are paramount in counselor development (Greason & Cashwell, 2009). Counselor educators can infuse a variety of contemplative practices into their pedagogy including journaling, deep listening, and guided meditation (Hilert & Tirado, 2019). A meditation that has been receiving increasing empirical attention is the centering meditation, which has demonstrated a causal effect on improving resilience, stress, mindfulness, and hope in the college population (Dorais & Gutierrez, 2021a, 2021b Despite its positive benefits, the empirical evidence of contemplative pedagogy has been lacking in the counseling research literature, specifically on its stated effects on connecting with others.…”
