“…7 Although successful hemostasis with an Angio-Seal™ device alone has been described in misplaced CVCs up to 11.5F size, several interventionalists prefer a balloon-supported insertion of Angio-Seal™ in the case of significant mismatch between the CVC and the 8F Angio-Seal to avoid dislocation of the anchor out of the vessel. 4,5,16 In the current study, closure of the arteriotomy site using an Angio-Seal™ was technically successful in all four cases in which there was no mismatch in size between the CVC and Angio-Seal™. Technical failure occurred in the one case in which the CVC with a size of approximately 11.5F was misplaced.…”

“…This failure might have been caused by dislocation of the undersized anchor out of the vessel and consequent extravascular placement of the Angio-Seal™. Therefore, in the case of a mismatch in diameter of the Angio-Seal™ and CVC, it might be beneficial to remove large-bore CVCs in a balloon-supported manner, as described by Bovenschulte et al 5 or at least to be prepared to perform a temporary balloon tamponade until successful closure (e.g. by stent placement) of the arteriotomy site.…”
