Technology Transfer Capability: development dynamics in higher education institutions

Abstract: Starting in the 1980s, several national governments were explicitly fostering the generation of new technologies in higher education institutions (HEIs) and the transfer of their respective outcomes into the productive sector (SANTOS; TOLEDO; LOTUFO, 2009; CLARIM, 2011). The assumption is that HEIs may reduce steps in the development of new goods, as well as mitigate the limitations of keeping a Research and Development sector (R&D) in a firm (HELLMAN, 2007;MATHEWS;HU, 2007). However, despite its importance an… Show more

“…Although, historically, academic research investigating dynamic capabilities have covered themes such as strategy and innovation, in recent years, studies have been conducted under different perspectives, thus broadening the scope of dynamic capabilities and strengthening its explanatory power for comprehending organizational reality. In this sense, in consonance with Albort-Morant, Leal-Rodríguez, Fernández-Rodríguez and Ariza-Montes (2018), dynamic capabilities have been used to explain, among other issues: technology transfers (Fernandes & Machado, 2019); the creation of capacities for engineering projects (Freitas & Salerno, 2018); the development of wine tourism (Lavandoski, Silva, Vargas-Sánchez, & Pinto, 2017) and supply chain collaboration (Mandal, 2017).…”

“…While the technology transfer process can be complex and interconnected, five general phases for effective actions can be identified (Figure 1) [8,10]. Transfer of technology process starts at new technology development through research, development, and international cooperative partnership initiatives.…”
