Teledermatological assessment of one psoriasis target lesion and patient‐reported‐PASI are sufficient for psoriasis monitoring

Abstract

Teledermatology has been shown to be a reliable substitute to face to face visits in various dermatological disorders [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Evidence on teledermatological monitoring (TM) in the treatment of psoriasis patients is, however, low and currently no TM system for psoriasis patients is used routinely [2,7,8]. This might be explained due to the very time consuming and effortful whole-body imaging to calculate the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). With our work we aimed to simplify TM, by empowering the patient to do psoriasis severity assessments themselves and by determining the set of data necessary for an efficient and reliable psoriasis severity assessment.Therefore, TM of psoriasis patients with an ongoing or newly initiated ustekinumab therapy ("ongoing" or "newly") was carried out in a prospective, open label, non-interventional multi-center design at five Dermatology Departments in Austria. To take all the different aspects of the multi-systemic disease psoriasis into account and provide adequate recommendations each patient was assessed in a comprehensive face-to-face visit at the beginning of the study.
