Temas de investigación predominantes en los congresos de la Asociación Española de Investigación de la Comunicación (AE-IC)

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to define the prevailing trends in the works presented at the biennial congresses of the Spanish Association of Communication Research (AE-IC) from its foundation in 2008 to the most recent one held in 2018. The objective is to quantify the submitted manuscripts, compare them by meetings, measure their frequency in the different sections to analyze their consolidation, and determine the central tendency or dispersion around the main topics. The current status of this issue provides a review of communication research in Spain and the specialized authors and meetings of such content. Our main hypothesis is that there are sections and lines of research with the greatest number of papers, and that these represent a clear orientation and impact in the conferences. At the same time, there is a certain dispersion related to another group of topics as a consequence of the disparity in the allocation criteria. Moreover, new issues arise in line with technological advances, the evolution of the profession, and the social agenda. To prove this, we analyze the AE-IC congresses using a methodological triangulation based on a quantification of the papers in each section, a comparison between them, the construction of some communications maps and graphics, and an analysis of the content to reveal their orientation. The conclusions confirm that the consolidated sections and topics of greatest interest are the study of discourse, digital culture, research theories and methods, and strategic and organizational communication, that there is a certain dispersion in less popular topics, and that new investigations appear in line with new social and professional concerns. Resumen El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar las tendencias predominantes en los congresos bianuales de la Asociación Española de Investigación de la Comunicación (AE-IC) desde el fundacional de 2008 al último celebrado en 2018. Se trata de cuantificar las comunicaciones presentadas, compararlas por encuentros, medir su frecuencia en las distintas secciones para analizar su consolidación y localizar la concentración o dispersión en torno a los asuntos centrales. En el estado de la cuestión se hace una revisión sistematizada sobre la investigación de la comunicación en España y sobre los autores y encuentros especializados en estos contenidos. Nuestra hipótesis principal es que existen secciones y líneas de investigación preferentes en torno a las cuales se desarrolla el mayor número de ponencias y que representan por lo tanto una clara orientación e incidencia de estos estudios. A la vez, se produce una cierta dispersión sobre otro conjunto de temas como consecuencia de la disparidad de criterios de asignación. Y surgen nuevos temas al hilo de los avances tecnológicos, la evolución de la profesión y la agenda social. Para demostrarlas, en triangulación metodológica, se analizan las actas de los congresos de la AE-IC, se cuantifican las exposiciones de cada sección, se comparan entre sí, se presenta un balance y representación gráfica de las comunicaciones en estos encuentros y se analizan los contenidos para conocer su orientación. Las conclusiones confirman que las secciones consolidadas y temas de mayor interés son el estudio del discurso, cultura digital, teorías y métodos de investigación y comunicación estratégica y organizacional; que hay una cierta dispersión en temas menos seguidos y que aparecen nuevas investigaciones al hilo de las preocupaciones sociales y profesionales más recientes.
