Template Synthesis of Nanowires in Porous Polycarbonate Membranes:  Electrochemistry and Morphology

Abstract: The potentiostatic electrochemical template synthesis of nanowires (Ni, Co, Cu, Au, and polyporrole) in polycarbonate track-etched membranes with nominal pore diameters d N between 10 and 200 nm is studied. Along the wire the cross section is found to vary:  the wire diameter, which is argued to directly reflect the pore diameter, is observed (for all deposits) to be substantially larger in the middle than at both ends. Therefore, the pores are not cylindrical with constant cross-section, in general, but appea… Show more

“…Figure 16.2.6B shows that more detailed images are obtained after the removal of the guest membrane by dissolution with CH 2 Cl 2 ; in this case, the nickel nanowires have a curious mushroom shape (47). Figure 16.2.6C shows that information about the inner structure of the nanofibers inside PC templates can be obtained by TEM without removal of the guest membrane thanks to the transparency of the PC to electron beams (83).…”

“…This can be produced by plasma or vacuum deposition of a metal layer on one side of the membrane (25) and requires that the membrane film be robust enough to tolerate this kind of manipulation. The thickness of the conductive layer is typically 100-1000 nm (45)(46)(47). The metal which produces the conductive layer can be the same or different from the one that will provide the final template structure.…”

“…Martin [53][54][55] subsequently created pores in polycarbonate membranes by track-etch method. In this work, polycarbonate membranes were purchased from Whatman and had pore lengths of 20 μm and diameter of the order of 200 nm.…”

“…На четвертой стадии (на зависимости процесса I(t) не указана) разрастающиеся " крышечки" образуют сплошной слой на поверхности темплата, и дальнейшее осаждение приводит лишь к увеличению толщины слоя металла. Следует отметить, что поведение I(t) на хроно-амперограммах зависит от параметров осаждения [22,24] и формы пор [25]. Рост нанотрубок для исследования их структурных и магнитных характеристик был ограничен третьей стадией осаждения, при этом время осаждения составляло t = 140 s.…”
