Terahertz-to-infrared converters for imaging the human skin cancer: challenges and feasibility

Abstract: Purpose: Terahertz (THz) medical imaging is a promising noninvasive technique for monitoring the skin's conditions, early detection of the human skin cancer, and recovery from burns and wounds. It can be applied for visualization of the healing process directly through clinical dressings and restorative ointments, minimizing the frequency of dressing changes. The THz imaging technique is cost effective, as compared to the magnetic resonance method. Our aim was to develop an approach capable of providing better… Show more

“…THz spectroscopy and imaging are widely used for the investigation of biological samples [1][2][3][4][5][6] and medical research [7][8][9][10], environmental monitoring [11][12][13][14][15][16], chemical analysis [17][18][19], communication [20][21][22][23][24], flaw detection [25,26], security applications (detection of explosives, narcotic drugs or dangerous objects under clothing,) [27][28][29], and paintwork studies [30][31][32]. Changing the polarization of initially non-polarized THz waves is a standard task in THz devices.…”
