“…This hypothesis was suggested by the studies of Noordhuizen‐Stassen et al (1985), which showed higher oxygen saturation of the blood in the proximal than the distal pampiniform plexus vessels. Arteriovenous anastomoses in the spermatic cord were found in other mammals, such as humans (Ergun et al, 1997; Skowronski and Jedrzejewski, 2003), boars (Rerkamnuaychoke et al, 1991a), rats (Ohtsuka, 1984), and tree shrews (Rerkamnuaychoke et al, 1991b; Pradidararcheep et al, 1998) which suggested a relatively common function of these structures in animals.…”

“…Therefore, further investigations should elucidate whether described anastomoses are more likely to perform the role of pressure regulators or metabolic shunt pathways. In the common tree shrew ( Tupaia glis ), some of the small branches of the convoluted part of the testicular artery gave rise to vasa vasorum, supplying the wall of the pampiniform plexus, especially in their distal portion (Pradidararcheep et al, 1998).…”

“…It then courses caudally along the medial border, then rostrally along the lateral border, and penetrates into the parenchyma near the rostral pole. While curving on the lateral border of the testis, it gives off 4–5 parenchymal branches penetrating perpendicularly into the testicular tissue [ 9 ].…”

“…There are several hypotheses concerning the physiological role of the winding and straight segments of the intra-testicular arteries, as well as the arterial conglomerations inside the mediastinum of the bovine testis [ 9 , 17 , 18 , 20 ]. However, the absence of these structures in the human testis prompts speculation.…”

“…Studies have shown that the special structure of the plexiform venous plexus formed in the spermatic cord of the mammalian testis closely surrounds the tortuosity of the testicular artery and is related to functions such as hormone transport (Henderson & Daniel, 1987), Free and other studies suggested that 28% to 46% of the testicular arterial blood flow in the sheep spermatic cord directly enters the piliform venous plexus through the arteriovenous anastomosis, but the arteriovenous anastomosis and nourishment of the spermatic cord have not been observed. The existence of arteries, some studies believe that such a structure is on the one hand to improve the regulation mechanism of the blood flow temperature of the plexiform venous plexus when it returns to the body; on the other hand, the ligamentous veins can be lost from their accompanying arteries by absorption The heat in the blood lowers the temperature of the bloodstream before entering the testis; and the exchange of temperature may not be direct heat exchange only between the testicular artery and the plexiform plexus, but also between the feeding vessels and the plexiform plexus (Pradidarcheep et al, 1998).…”
