“…Therefore, they may have come to the programme with some level of intrinsic motivation. In addition, because it takes some inherent motivation to be a vocational rehabilitation programme participant (Tansey et al, ); student participants in this study may have had higher levels of initial work motivation than non‐vocational rehabilitation programme participants.…”

“…For transition‐aged youth with intellectual disabilities, employment skill instruction taught in the community and workplace settings provides opportunities to develop not only necessary vocational skills but also self‐determination skills and community involvement skills (Gilson, Carter, & Biggs, ). The youth, though, must be motivated enough to participate in the services (Tansey, Iwanaga, Bezyak, & Ditchman, ). Because work motivation may influence employment participation in those with intellectual disabilities (Kocman & Weber, ), the purpose of this exploratory study was to determine work motivation perceptions of students with intellectual disabilities before and after participation in a short‐term vocational rehabilitation summer programme.…”

“…Central to this theory are the concepts of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy. In VR, self-efficacy is assumed to influence expected outcomes, and outcome expectancy in turn influences service engagement and readiness for employment (Tansey, Iwanaga, Bezyak, & Ditchman, 2017). Outcome expectancy is referred to as personal beliefs that center on the probable and imagined outcomes of one's actions (Bandura, 1997;Williams, 2010).…”

“…An integrated model based on these two theories has recently been supported in the literature to explain engagement in VR services and motivation to work among adults with disabilities (Iwanaga et al, 2018;Tansey et al, 2017). In addition to supporting the connection between self-efficacy and outcome expectancy, the integrated model conceptualizes self-efficacy and competency as a unitary construct and posits a direct effect of the selfdetermination theory constructs on outcome expectancies and ultimately engagement.…”
