Tetrathiafulvalene End-Functionalized Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide): A New Class of Amphiphilic Polymer for the Creation of Multistimuli Responsive Micelles

Abstract: In this article, we report the formation of micelles from a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) end-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (poly(NIPAM)) derivative (1). We have determined the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) and average diameter of the micelles using fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering experiments, respectively. We have exploited the NIPAM backbone of the polymer to thermally transform the swollen hydrophilic poly(NIPAM) derivative to a more globular hydrophobic state at th… Show more

“…Woisel, Cook et al have demonstrated the potential of specific host-guest interactions to control micelle formation of a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) end-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) PNIPAAm amphiphilic polymer [63]. Using Nile red as a molecular fluorescent probe, the formation of micelles containing a TTF core was confirmed by fluorescence studies.…”

“…Nowadays, many amphiphilic polymer-based micelles have been developed as a result of their more versatile structure and function compared to that of lipid. 119,120 Liposomes are capable of carrying both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs at the same time. The hydrophobic drugs can be integrated into the fatty acid shell while the hydrophilic drugs can be loaded into the aqueous core.…”

“…For the study of micellization, the amphiphilic, linear poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) derivative 47 functionalized by TTF was used in aqueous solution. 38,39 The temperature-induced micellization was monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and differential scanning calorimetry. The amphiphilic polymers of the type 47 can self-assemble in water to give multistimuli responsive polymeric micelles.…”
