Th9 Cells as a New Player in Inflammatory Skin Disorders

Abstract: CD4+T cells are composed of different subpopulations that differ in developmental pathways, surface markers, and their products. Among the catalog of these cells is Th9 cell subset that has a great capacity of Interleukin (IL)-9 production. They could be involved in the pathogenic or protective immune responses. Therefore, it is important to know how Th9 cells and cytokines influence the function of the human immune system as multitasking machinery, both in isolation or after the interaction with other surroun… Show more

“…It is essential to differentiate between the effects of chronic HCV infection and the development of SLE. The fact that the patient's symptoms improved and HCV RNA became negative after treat-ment may have contributed to the unmasking of underlying autoimmune activity [5].…”

“…Traditionally, the CD4 + T cell subset lineages have been classified based on the cytokines they produce expression of characteristic transcriptional factors (TFs). Based on this classification, CD4 + T cells have been designated into T-helper-1 (T H 1), T-helper 2 (T H 2), T-helper 17 (T H 17), follicular helper T cells (Tfh), induced T-regulatory cells (iTregs), regulatory type 1 cells (Tr1), and T-helper 9 cells (T H 9) ( 27 33 ). In recent years, the diversity of T H subsets has increased in complexity and the designation of T H subsets beyond T H 1, T H 2 and T H 17 cells remains a subject of intense debate as the traditional classification system fails to account for T H cells that are involved in the induction of various pathologies.…”

“…Th9 cell plays a significant role in causing inflammation in psoriasis, lichen planus and vitiligo diseases and exacerbates the function of other inflammatory cells such as Th1 and Th17 77‐80 . There is also a direct relationship between the number of Th9, the severity of the disease, and the period of inflammation 81,82 . In addition, it has been shown that Th2 cells are able to switch to Th9 under the influence of TGF‐β and IL‐4 83 .…”
