The 8th International Congress on SLE

Abstract: Dietary planning is supposed to mediate between intentions and dietary behaviors. However, if a person lacks self-efficacy, this mediation might fail. A cross-sectional study in Costa Rica and a longitudinal study in South Korea were designed to examine the moderating role of self-efficacy in the intentionplanning-behavior relationship. Intentions, planning, self-efficacy, dietary behaviors, and baseline diet were assessed. Study 1 included 245 women; Study 2 included 358 women. Moderated mediation models were… Show more

“…According to Norman and Conner (2005), there is some evidence to suggest that the impact of intentions on behaviour can be mediated by the extent to which one undertakes sufficient planning (see also Gutiérrez-Doña et al, 2009;Jones et al, 2001;Luszczynska & Schwarzer, 2003;van Osch et al, 2009). The results of the present study revealed that planning mediated the impact of both intention and PBC on the reported intake of foods low in saturated fats.…”

“…In addition, Norman and Conner found some evidence to suggest that the impact of intentions on behaviour may be mediated by the extent to which one undertakes planning activities (see also Gutiérrez-Doña, Lippke, Renner, Kwon, & Schwarzer, 2009;Jones, Abraham, Harris, Schulz, & Chrispin, 2001;Luszczynska & Schwarzer, 2003;van Osch, Beenackers, Reubsaet, Lechner, Candel & de Vries, 2009) .…”

“…On the other hand, actual healthy eating was translated into these self-perceptions. As previous studies have shown that past behavior is related to intention and subsequent behavior (e.g., Conner, Norman, & Bell, 2002;Gutierrez-Dona, Lippke, Renner, Kwon, & Schwarzer, 2009;Houben, Nederkoorn, & Jansen, 2012), it might have been actual eating behavior, mirrored in people's self-perception, which led to higher intention and subsequent healthy eating behavior.…”
