The analysis of thermal state of catalytic converter depending on fuel supply and engine load using thermo-vision

Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of thermal state of three-way catalytic converter depending on engine load with spark ignition fueled with gasoline and natural gas. The measurements on the test bench were performed, during which the temperature of the exhaust gases in the exhaust system was measured with the help of thermocouples, and at the same time, the track of the thermal state of the catalytic converter was monitored using thermo-vision camera. The stable work of engine with different rotation speed and … Show more

“…It has also been mentioned that the use of thermography occurs in the diagnosis of the welding process and the assessment of the quality of these joints [9,10]. Thermography is used in the widely understood diagnostics of machines and their components, starting from CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools [11], through mechanical expanders [12], rotating machines [13], belt conveyors [14], internal combustion engines (catalytic reactors) [15,16], bearings and bearing nodes [17,18], brakes [19], up to electrical devices and machines [20][21][22][23]. Attempts have been made to correlate strength tests and stresses in the material with the amount of heat generated [24].…”

“…It should be noted that bolometric cameras are most often used due to the widest range of recorded infrared wavelengths [6,18]. These types of cameras are used in construction, the power industry or testing machines, and internal combustion engines, as presented in [16,19].…”

“…The use of thermography to diagnose the welding process and to estimate the quality of these connections have also been mentioned [10,11]. Secondly, thermography is used in the widely understood diagnostics of machines and their components, such as CNC machine tools [12], through mechanical spreaders [13], rotating machines [14], belt conveyors [15], internal combustion engines (catalytic reactors) [16,17], bearings (temperature measurement of moving rolling elements, and one must keep in mind that baskets in bearings may be measured only with contactless methods) and bearing nodes [18,19], brakes [20], as well as electrical devices and machines [21][22][23].…”
