The apical impulse in coronary heart disease

Abstract: Summary:Forty patients (36 with coronary artery disease), who had angiographic assessment of left ventricular function were studied using apexcardiography with a new method of standardization, the objective being to define the parameters of the apical impulse which reflect changes in the left ventricular function and correlate them with clinical assessment of the apical impulse. Based on measurements from patients with normal left ventricular function, abnormalities in apexcardiograms were identified. An incre… Show more

“…This technique can be combined with other vital signals like the electrocardiogram and the blood pressure to provide important information about human health. ACG was used to detect heart diseases for several decades ago . However, it has lost popularity due to the requirement of bulk instrument and sound‐proof environments.…”

“…As presented in Figure 10 d, the strain sensor is attached to the throat in order to capture the swallowing of saliva by detecting the motion of the Adam’s apple or laryngeal prominence. For respiration monitoring, a strain sensor was mounted onto the chest area [ 210 ] to detect the cardiac impulses or apexcardiogram (ACG), which are respiration signals that could potentially be used for diagnosing the ventricular abnormalities and heart diseases for several decades [ 211 ]. SSSs have also been utilized for the detection of emotional expression and phonetic recognition [ 193 , 210 ].…”
