The Application of Hollow Segmented Pie Bicomponent Spunbond Hydro-Entangled Microfiber Nonwovens for Microfiber Synthetic Leather Apparel

Abstract: The polyester/nylon 6 hollow segmented pie bicomponent spunbond hydro-entangled microfiber nonwoven (PET/PA6 HSBSYMNW) was prepared and used as a leather base to produce microfiber synthetic leather for apparel. The structure and properties of PET/PA6 HSBSYMNW were investigated. SEM analysis indicated the fiber diameter size was between 2.2∼5.5 μm. Its performance met the demand of nonwoven textiles for synthetic leather. The obtained microfiber synthetic leather was arranged in a four-layer configuration, and… Show more

“…This is related to the thickness of the TiO 2 film layer on the fiber surface. The mechanical properties of the nonwovens before and after the modification can meet the demands of nonwoven textiles for synthetic leather [2]. Furthermore, as shown in Figure 5c, PET/PA6 nonwovens before and after modification had different crease recovery angles.…”

“…Polyester/polyamide 6 hollow segmented pie bicomponent spunbond hydro-entangled microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6), as splittable filaments have shown superior properties such as softness, higher absorbency due to a higher surface area, and higher filtration efficiency [1][2][3]. Nevertheless, the main component of microfibers leads to high hydrophobicity (absorbing ~0.4-4.5% of moisture), limiting their further applications [4][5][6].…”

“…According to the type of coating, man-made leathers can be divided into two categories: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) artificial leather and polyurethane (PU) synthetic leather [ 4 , 5 ]. In terms of coating structure, the artificial or synthetic leather coating generally consists of the surface effect layer, surface layer, intermediate foaming layer and adhesive layer [ 6 ]. Different types of coating play important roles in the overall physical properties of man-made leathers.…”

“…In recent years, synthetic leather industry has developed rapidly, production has increased sharply, and market competition is fierce. The leather product industry has continuously increased the performance requirement of synthetic leather materials 6–9 . The development of synthetic leather to simulate leather has become an inevitable trend in this field.…”
