The association between phenomena on the Sun, geomagnetic activity, meteorological variables, and cardiovascular characteristic of patients with myocardial infarction

Abstract: It has been found that solar and geomagnetic activity affects the cardiovascular system. Some evidence has been reported on the increase in the rate of myocardial infarction, stroke and myocardial infarction related deaths during geomagnetic storms. We investigated the association between cardiovascular characteristics of patients, admitted for myocardial infarction with ST elevation (STEMI), and geomagnetic activity (GMA), solar proton events (SPE), solar flares, and meteorological variables during admission.… Show more

“…In the afternoon, when the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system increased, a significantly increased risk of EACs for EABP was associated with days of very low GMA. The fact that both extremely high and extremely low values of geomagnetic activity seem to have adverse health effects has been detected by other authors as well [30,47,48].…”

“…Among the many causes of MI/RI, humans began to notice the potential impact of geomagnetic activity on human health [6,7] . A vast number of large-scale clinical observational experiments show that when there was a geomagnetic outbreak, arrhythmia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, stroke, and other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events increased significantly [3,9-12] . The mechanisms of the geomagnetic field on the cardiovascular function are studies that became very meaningful.…”

“…At present, about 3.5 million people die of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases each year in China, accounting for over 40% of the total number of deaths due to various causes [1] . Studies have shown that the occurrence and development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are closely related to the geomagnetic field, but the specific mechanism of influence is not yet clear [2,3] . The traditional research methods can't explain the mechanism of geomagnetic activity on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.…”

“…However, in some studies, the authors show the empirical relationship between them (Bi et al 2011;Styro et al 2005). The increase of lethal outcomes of people with cardiovascular pathology is observed during strong variation of a geomagnetic field (Dimitrova et al 2009;Rodriquez-Taboada et al 2004;Vencloviene et al 2013). It is also shown that increase of lethal cases coincide with instability of protons flux in the galactic cosmic rays in the cases where their energy is greater than 90 MeV (Dimitrova et al 2009).…”
