The Association of Glucose Variability and Home Discharge Among Survivors of Critical Illness Managed With a Computerized Decision-Support Tool for Glycemic Control

Abstract: In-intensive care unit (ICU) glucose variability (GV) is associated with increased mortality. However, the impact of GV on hospital survivors' morbidity and associated changes in destination at time of hospital discharge are unknown. We studied a retrospective patient cohort in a medical/surgical ICU, requiring insulin infusion, using computer-guided insulin dosing software. Standard deviation (Glu SD ) and coefficient of variation (Glu CV ) were used as GV measures. We examined rates of home discharge (H) in … Show more

“…24,28 Until now, DSSs for improving GV have been developed mostly for T1D or insulin-treated patients in intensive care units, as GV is associated with increased mortality. 33,34 A reduction of GV has been demonstrated in people with T2D using second-generation basal insulin analogs, GLP-1 analogs, incretin enhancers, or SGLT-2 inhibitors. 35 An earlier study suggested a positive impact of DSS on GV in T2D.…”
