Students' speaking abilities are widely thought to play an important role in speaking classes and high school English teachers endeavor to improve their students' speaking performance. The purpose of the current study was to examine whether incorporating videos before and after speaking sessions had a substantial impact on students’ speaking development. The participants were 78 high school students in Kien Giang province. The study used a quasi-experimental mixed-methods design. The participants were organized into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. Both groups underwent a pre-test to check group homogeneity and for later comparison. The students in the experimental group participated in the speaking class where video integration was introduced at the beginning and end of each lesson whereas the students in the control group attended regular speaking classes. The intervention lasted for twelve weeks. A posttest was then given to students of the two groups to check progress in speaking performance. Furthermore, the attitudes of the students in the experimental group were measured using Likert-style questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Data collected from the pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were subjected to analysis via SPSS. The findings of the study indicate that the application of videos in speaking classes significantly influenced students' speaking performance. The Corona Virus 19 (COVID-19) outbreak has made learning and teaching shifted to online. Some distinct modifications on teaching and learning need to be conducted, especially between those teaching English in rural and urban areas. This study is objected to eliciting teachers’ attitudes towards online learning of those teaching in rural and urban areas in the EFL context. A survey research design was employed to reach the objective with semi-interview and online questionnaires to collect data, distributed to the research subjects of 44 English teachers of secondary schools in rural and urban areas. The questionnaire was analyzed by finding the mean score of each item to determine tendencies, while the interview was analyzed by grouping the ideas into meaningful categories and was narratively described. The results showed significant differences in teachers' perception of teaching online in rural and urban areas, such as motivation, classroom management, technical support, and school and parents' support. It is then suggested that teaching online in rural and urban areas needs to be treated differently, a consideration for English teachers and the Ministry of Education to keep having ideal online learning and teaching.

The study is aimed to investigate the strategies and preparations for building an active learning environment. The study involved five students who had a good experience in teaching for at least one month to two months and are considered capable of creating an active learning environment in the classroom. The in-depth interview structure conducted in this study has two main objectives, namely: (1) to identify what kind of strategies that can be applied to implement the active learning environment in the classroom; and (2) to find out what must be prepared by the pre-service English teachers in conducting the teaching and learning process at school. The findings of the study showed that there are four main strategies and three main things that should be prepared by the participants in building an active learning environment. The strategies are: Combining student's interests with instructional media, Providing motivational videos to improve student's enthusiasm, Applying TPR method to enhance student's vocabulary, and Practicing English through web-based learning. Meanwhile, the preparations to run the strategies are: Adjusting the teaching environment, Selecting learning resources, and Supplying interactive media to increase student's interest in learning English. Thus, these findings can be used as reference for English teachers who are facing the problems in building an active learning environment during teaching and learning process.
