The Cambridge Companion to Hippocrates

Abstract: Hippocrates remains a figure shrouded in mystery. We have next to no indubitable facts about his life. Although a large number of texts attributed to Hippocrates have come down to us, we cannot be certain that any one of them was written by the historical Hippocrates.
