The conservation of both ctrA and ccrM in these organisms, displaying very distinct lifecycles and ecology (free-living, symbiotic or parasitic bacteria, symmetric or asymmetric cell division, motile or non-motile, single or multiple replicas) raises the question of their functions.…”
