“…These surgical treatment methods can be classified into two types: direct or indirect anastomosis. By performing such angioplasty, collateral blood circulation through the cerebral cortex can be increased, thereby reducing the frequency of ischemic attacks [6][7][8][9][10][11]. The disease has no cure, however [8][9][10].…”

“…This kind of attack is caused by hyperventilating activities, such as singing, crying, excessive exercise, etc., which can be triggered even when the individual is under stress (Kim et al., 2016; Lee et al., 2017). In addition, common neurological symptoms – such as headaches and dizziness (Smith & Scott, 2001) – are also caused by decreased blood flow to the brain, leading to significant inconveniences to adolescents in their daily lives (Yeom et al, 2015).…”

“…However, existing symptom cluster studies have mainly been conducted on cancer patients and patients on dialysis (Cao et al., 2017; Kwekkeboom, 2016), with a lack of basic research on moyamoya disease (Yeom et al, 2015). A small number of studies related to moyamoya disease – mainly case studies of adult sufferers of moyamoya disease – lack statistical evidence (Sewell et al., 2009; Zach et al., 2010).…”

“…The disease is more prevalent in Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea, and China than the U.S. and Europe, and South Korea has the largest number of moyamoya cases after Japan (Ahn et al, 2014). According to a South Korean study, women are 1.8 times more likely to suffer from moyamoya than men, and the most vulnerable age groups are 10–19 (21.6%) and 50–59 (30%) (Kim, Lee et al, 2015). Recent advances in magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance angiography, and other diagnostic technology have resulted in an increase in adult moyamoya diagnoses.…”
