The CLAS12 Micromegas Vertex Tracker

Abstract: The Micromegas Vertex Tracker was designed to improve upon the tracking capabilities of the baseline design of the CLAS12 spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Laboratory. A Barrel Micromegas Tracker made with six concentric cylinders, each made of three 120 • -sector tiles, surrounds the Silicon Vertex Tracker, and a Forward Micromegas Tracker composed of 6 disks is placed 30 cm downstream of the liquid-hydrogen target. Both trackers sit in a 5 T solenoid magnetic field. All Micromegas elements are based on res… Show more

“…The precise determination of the scattered electron angle is obtained with a tracker complementing the FT-Cal and FT-Hodo detectors. The FT-Trk uses the same technology adopted by the CLAS12 central and forward Micromegas tracker [266]; it consists of two double-layer detectors and is located in front of the FT-Hodo with geometry chosen to enable the determination of the (x, y) coordinates (perpendicular to the beam z-axis) of a track.…”

“…The very forward region, between 2°and 5°, is equipped with a calorimeter based system to detect electrons and photons. Micromegas are used close to the target to improve on the baseline tracking systems [40] and in the very forward region to provide the pointing direction of the scattered electron [41].…”
