The clinical value of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging at 3.0T to detect prostate cancer

Abstract: Objective: To compare dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and T 2 -weighted imaging (T 2 WI) at 3.0T for detection of prostate cancer. Methods: Patients with elevated prostate-specific antigen underwent T 2 WI and DCE-MRI prior to prostate needle biopsy. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of T 2 WI and DCE-MRI to diagnose prostate cancer were evaluated. The relationship between Gleason score and prostate cance… Show more

“…Of the 26 studies included in our review, two calculated per-regions and per-patients [ 26 , 29 ]. We identified 21 studies that included DCE combined with other imaging techniques studies of PCa for localization of the tumor (peripheral zone, transition zone and whole gland [ 14 34 ], and 7 studies investigated each imaging technique performed per-patients analysis [ 26 , 29 , 35 39 ].…”

“…Imaging plays an important role. The spiral CT has improved the sharpness of the image, but there are sometimes artifacts during the CT examination, which interferes with the diagnosis (18). As a commonly used imaging method, MRI images in multiple directions.…”

“…There are several agents approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, including gadopentetate dimeglumine (Magnevist), gadobutrol (Gadovist), or gadodiamide (Omniscan) [96]. Aiming for a reasonable spatiotemporal resolution, a five-minute DCE acquisition yields dynamic imaging with a temporal resolution in the range of 3-10 s, a spatial resolution in the range of 0.7 9 0.7 mm to 1.9 9 1.9 mm with a slice thickness of 3-4 mm [27,66,91,92,95,[97][98][99][100][101]. Compressed sensing techniques have been implemented into DCE sequences to improve spatiotemporal resolution or increase the coverage.…”
