The collective effect of rework, expedited-rate, external source, and machine failures on manufacturing runtime planning

Abstract: Production managers face the growing trend of rapid-response orders and inevitable production defects and failures; they must carefully measure these factors’ effects to minimize operating expenditures and operational disruption. Inspired by assisting producers decide the optimal runtime policy under these real situations, this work investigates the collective impact of rework, expedited-rate, external source, and machine failures on such a specific fabrication system. A partial outsourcing and expedited manuf… Show more

“…Lastly, the study offers a numerical demonstration and sensitivity analyses for the research results. Additional works (Nachiappan et al, 2008;Singh and Singh, 2013;Chiu et al, 2021;Di Nardo et al, 2021;Uzen et al, 2021;Aljumah et al, 2022;Chiu et al, 2022b;Comert et al, 2022;Lin et al, 2022b;Riaño et al, 2022;Seçkin and Seçkin, 2022) studied various random faulty goods produced and quality assurance actions, and shipping policies influence fabricating systems and supply chains' operations and management. Few earlier works examined the collective/individual impact of scraps, subcontracting strategy, rework, and postponement on the multiproduct replenishingtransportation decisions; we intend to fill the gap.…”
