The complete chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the medicinal plant Rubus chingii Hu

Abstract: Rubus chingiiHu is an important traditional Chinese medicine with a beneficial effect on the kidney. In this study, we report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of R. chingii. The assembled chloroplast genome was 155843 bp in length, containing two inverted repeated (IR) regions of 25372 bp each, a large single copy (LSC) region of 86456 bp and a small single copy (SSC) region of 18643 bp. The genome contained 130 genes, including 86 protein genes, eight rRNA genes, and 36 tRNA genes. The overall GC cont… Show more

“…The majority of species in the genus Rubus belong to the subgenus Idaeobatus, with only one species classified as subgenus Malachobatus. Since most of the branches reconstructed in this study correspond with those obtained in previous studies, we conclude that the overall topology of our phylogenetic tree is reliable (Yang and Pak 2006;Yang et al 2012;Wang et al 2016;Hummer et al 2019;Wang et al 2020;Yang et al 2021). The genome data and barcode markers developed in this study provide a basis for unveiling the phylogenetic relationships of species of the genus Rubus worldwide.…”

“…The specimen is deposited at Medicinal Herbarium Center of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, China (Voucher Identifying Number ZM-1963). Total genomic DNA was extracted and sequenced using the Illumina Hiseq Platform according to the previous reprot (Gao et al 2020;Wang et al 2020). The chloroplast genome of B. nivea was assembled by metaSPAdes with the chloroplast sequence of B. umbrosa as reference (Nurk et al 2017).…”

“…The taxonomy has been revised with similarities in phenotypes across different species (Lubna et al 2020). The chloroplast genome (cp) has been proven to be a valuable resource for species identification and plant phylogenetic analysis (Wang et al 2020). Furthermore, it is necessary to develop effective molecular identification strategy for O. corymbosa to ensure the safety of clinical application.…”
