Fish is one of the biological natural resources that has high diversity in river ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity index, diversity index, and fish dominance index in the Aur Lemau Watershed, which is located in Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. This research was conducted in January-August 2021. The sampling method used was purposive random sampling. Determination of the sampling location is recommended in the relatively different environmental conditions and fishing areas that are usually carried out by the surrounding community. This study found as many as 14 species of fish with a total number of 146 fish. The order that dominates the fish in the waters of the Aur Lemau River is the order Perciformes with a total of 8 families and 8 species. Based on the results of the calculation of the diversity index value of station I is 2.09; station II of 1.9; and station III of 1.3. Then, the uniformity index value of station I (0.96); station II (0.92); and station III (0.81). The highest dominance index is at station III with a value of 0.31. The dominance index value of station I is 0.14 and station II is 0.12.

Abstract. Latupeirissa LN, Leiwakabessy F, Rumahlatu D. 2020. Species density and shell morphology of gold ring cowry (Monetaria annulus, Linnaeus, 1758) (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Cypraeidae) in the coastal waters of Ambon Island, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 1391-1400. The purpose of this research was to examine environmental factors, species density, and the shell morphology of Monetaria annulus. The samples were collected by using the line transect method at 6 research stations. The data of the environmental factors (temperature, salinity, and pH of seawater) as well as species density of M. annulus were collected with in-situ technique, while the shell morphology of M. annulus was measured at Laboratory of the Deep-Sea Research Center, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Ambon. The results of the measurements of the environmental factors in the coastal waters of Ambon Island showed some fluctuations in the measurement values. The seawater temperature ranged between 29.78-30.05 ºC, the salinity of seawater ranged from 32.12-32.33‰, and the pH of the seawater ranged from 8.34-8.49. The density of M. annulus at the research stations from the highest to the lowest was at Tanjung Tiram station, Suli station, Seri station, Hutumuri station, Halong station, and Latuhalat station (0.27 > 0.24 > 0.23 > 0.19 > 0.14 > 0.12 ind/m2). The results of the measurement of the shell morphology showed many variations in the size and shape of the shell of M. annulus with a total number (N) of 294 individuals. The length, the width, and the height of the shell, the length of the blotches, the width of the blotches, and the total weight of M. annulus from each research station were significantly different (p<0.005). These results indicate that the differences in the shell morphology of M. annulus at each research station were influenced by waves, the strength of the currents sea waves, and the different substrate of water. In addition, the variation of shell morphology can be a reason for characterization in the taxonomy of the Cypraeidae family.

“…Thus, its existence could protect other smaller seagrass species against stream and waves (Fonseca and Cahalan 1992;John et al 2015). Seagrass beds provide habitat for a fish community (Phinrub et al 2014), the existence of seagrass stand especially E. acoroides (Lotuconsina et al 2012;Ambo-Rappe et al, 2013) and C. rotundata is a vegetative option chosen by the fish species to associate. The association can be seen especially in ST2 where the density of the seagrass was experiencing a decline, especially H. pinifolia, T. hemprichii, and H. minor but the number of fish species available in ST2 was consistent, and so was the fish species in ST1 which was likely stable (Figure 2.E and 2.F).…”

Biodiversitas 19: 1044-1053. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate theimportance of seagrass beds as a buffer zone for fish biodiversity in a coastal ecosystem. The sampling of seagrass and fish were done inseagrass beds associated with mangrove (ST1) and coral reef (ST2). Sampling period was executed from May 2011 to May 2017.Sampling was done on the lowest tide with a six-month interval. Seagrass sampling was carried out using line transect, and fishsampling was performed using set net (belat local name) operated by local fisherman. The results showed that seagrass beds at ST1composed of C. rotundata and E. acoroides and that at ST2 composed of C. rotundata, E. acoroides, H. pinifolia, H. minor and T.hemprichii. The total number of individual was 42574 divided into 112 fish species. There were 17 species (population: 15.18%)associated explicitly with ST1 and 39 species (population: 34.82%) specifically associated with ST2 while 56 fish species (population:50.0%) were prevalently spread in both stations. This research proved the existence of seagrass beds as a buffer zone for fishbiodiversity.
