This research analyzes the role of the Gamelan Jegog as a distinctive gamelan instrument in Jembrana Regency, Bali, which reflects the competitive spirit embraced by its community. The research adopts Huizinga's perspective on play, recognizing five key elements that differentiate it from everyday activities: freedom, temporality, closedness, order, and tension.The research employed a qualitative method, with an interpretative analysis approach to dissect the Mabarung Jegog competition events. Data was gathered through interviews and observations of the supporting community and aspects related to the Mabarung Jegog competition.The findings reveal that Mabarung Jegog is not merely a musical performance. Still, it reflects the identity and character of the players, evident in their movements and body positions while playing. This competition is also closely tied to the context of place and time, with spatial limitations set by the organizers. The paper thus concludes that Mabarung Jegog exhibits specific traits such as order, systematicity, and high aesthetic value while fostering a sense of tolerance among the players. The tension that arises affects the psychology of the players, ranging from pride and self-esteem when winning, and feelings of disappointment and shame in the face of defeat. The competitive performance of Mabarung Jegog also encourages the emergence of contestation, where differences of opinion or conflicts may arise among the involved parties.The novelty of this research lies in the in-depth analysis of Gamelan Jegog's role in reflecting the Jembrana community's competitive spirit and the interpretation of cultural context in the Mabarung Jegog competition.

Biodiversitas 24: 5485-5494. Peraq api is a ritual for giving baby names by the Sasak Tribe in Lombok Island, Indonesia. This ritual uses various species of plants and processions to symbolize values and beliefs of the Sasak people. This unique cultural knowledge and practice might interest tourists to experience the ritual. This study aims to determine the diversity of plant species used in peraq api ritual and the ethnobotanical knowledge embedded on it, and to assess the potential of utilizing this ritual for sustainable tourism development. This research was conducted in villages around the Mandalika Area, including Sengkol, Kuta, Sukadana, and Mertak Villages, located in Pujut Sub-district, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara Province. The research was carried out by combining the methods of direct observation, participatory observation and interviews. Information on the species and vernacular names, plant part used, mode of use, conservation status of the plant as well as its habitat were collected and analyzed using descriptive and qualitative approaches. Based on the research, it was found that 15 families, 21 genera and 22 plant species were used in peraq api ritual. Each plant symbolizes the indigenous value and beliefs of Sasak Tribe related to their connection with God, people and environment. The use of plants in peraq api ritual also shows the indigenous intelligence of the Sasak Tribe. Traditional knowledge about the uses of plants and landscape management plays an important role in plant conservation. Plants used in the peraq api ritual can be found in various habitats, including homegarden, garden, riverside and ricefield. These various habitats resemble the indigenous ecological and ethnobotanical knowledge of Sasak Tribe in landscape management which has a very positive role in conserving biodiversity, creating a sustainable environment and socio-cultural preservation. The peraq api ritual has the potential to be develope as a sustainable tourism. The development of peraq api rituals for tourism might be useful to preserve cultural values of Sasak Tribe ??as a national cultural asset, conserve plant diversity and environment and improve the welfare of local communities.

Analysis of factors affecting the intake gate operations of Gerokgak Reservoir for command areas of Subak Gede

Subak Gede in Gerokgak Village, Buleleng, practices traditional irrigation in Bali based on Tri Hita Karana principles. Subak sources water from Gerokgak Reservoir, where intake gate operations depend on three factors: the recent ten-day discharge (item 1), rainfall in command areas (item 2), and crop type (item 3). Quantification Analysis I simulated the intake gate from 2019 to 2022, comprising Models A to D, each using yearly data for its respective year (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022), and Model E using four years of data. Items 1 and 2 had high, moderate, and low categories; item 3 had paddy, palawija, paddy-palawija, and fallow categories. The simulation exhibited strong correlations between predicted and recorded discharge of every quantification model, with R-total > 0.6, varying for each sample year. Based on the analysis, the three items showed a different impact every year, depending on the item-category distribution and variation. Notably, due to its sample, quantification Model E excelled in predicting intake gate operations for other yearly data, including its own sample year.
