The dative in Croatian Štokavian and Kajkavian grammars up to 1860

Abstract: This article deals with the approach to the dative case in Kajkavian and Štokavian grammars from 1604 to 1859. We concentrate on seventeen grammars, primarily focusing on their presentation of the meaning of the dative case. Remarks related to the meaning of the dative are mainly found in the parts of these grammars discussing syntax, and to a lesser extent in other parts. “…Osnova im je iz turskoga jezika, a označuju osobe koje se bave onime što znači osnovna imenica. Prema Skoku sufiks -džija dolazi poslije zvučnih suglasnika, a -čija nakon bezvučnih, no kada po analogiji dođe na naš bezvučni glas, onda postaje zvučan.Sufiks dolazi najprije u turskim nazivima zanata (I: 474), a to potvrđuju i naši primjeri.Sufiks je potvrđen u primjerima: kapidžija (s. v. der Thorhüter, 45), kavedžija(17), kazandžija (s. v. der Kupferschmidt,48), kulundžija(17), lagumdžija (s. v.
