The design and simulation of an autonomous system for aircraft maintenance scheduling

Abstract: Operational support is a key issue for aircraft maintenance, which aims to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs under the premise of ensuring flight safety. Although many works have emerged to achieve this aim, they mostly address the concept of maintenance systems, the relationship between stakeholders and the loop of maintenance information separately. Hence, the cooperation between stakeholders could be impeded especially when urgent decisions should be made, relying on historical data … Show more

“…Different techniques have been used in the analysis and design of maintenance strategies as the here reported, such as agent-based modeling [35][36][37] and discrete simulation [38]. However, those investigations analyze only the impact of maintenance on service or process operations, but do not analyze the impact caused by the maintenance process on other key logistics processes of the company.…”

“…Moreover, the air taxi maintenance and labor cost are anticipated to constitute about 22% of the VTOL direct operating costs (Holden and Goel, 2016). Due to these significant attributes, fleet maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) is considered as one of the key decisions for efficient aviation services (Papakostas et al, 2010;Atli and Kahraman, 2012;Liu et al, 2019). In addition, these periodic maintenance would have to be conducted on a large fleet of vehicles, especially when the air taxi market matures.…”

“…In terms of service level, onTimeFlights, delayFlights and canceledFlights are defined. One flight is supposed to be canceled if the delayed time from the departure of a plane is more than 4 hours (Liu et al 2019).…”

“…Therefore, in this paper, we choose NuSMV as the model checker. The approach proposed is employed to verify the behaviours of the ABSS proposed by Liu et al (2019). As shown in Fig.…”
