Burton Clark's proposition concerning the cooling out of underprepared students in community colleges has a controversial history and remains a point of contention. Central to Clark's description of the cooling out process is the academic counselor, whose job it is to dissuade underprepared students from goals perceived to be overambitious and ease these students into lesser, presumably better-fitting academic trajectories. In this study, I test a number of hypotheses concerning the effect of advising on students' chances of attaining their goals. I seek to determine what effect advising has on students' attainment, and whether this effect is dependent upon students' academic preparation, students' race/ethnicity, the racial/ethnic composition of the college, or the representation of underprepared students in the college. I use hierarchical discrete-time event history analysis to analyze data that address two subsets of the Fall 1995 cohort of first-time freshmen who enrolled in any of California's 107 semester-based community colleges. I find that advising is actively beneficial to students' chances of success, and all the more so for students who face academic deficiencies, which contradicts deductions drawn from Clark's description of the active role of counselors in the cooling out process.

Academic Advising is an available opportunity offered by the university for all students. Success of this process based on cooperation between the Advisor Advisee and their institution. The Highly Qualified Advisor participate significantly in running of this process effectively, this will not been occurred without continuous and wise support of the institution and trustful advisee response. The concept of advising students has been present in some shape since the inception of higher education in America. In the late eighteenth century, Since then until now it is raising strongly and became one of the most targeted and important demand in efficiency of higher education. The paper (literature Review) focus on the most related important areas of interest in academic advising and the common related investigated points, which contributed in strengthen of weaknesses and establish its development.

This study aims to investigate the role of Arabic language lecturers as academic advisors in the IAIN Kendari students' completion process. Using four faculties as the location for this study, snowball sampling was used to select eight students and nine Arabic lecturers for separate interviews and observations during the consultation process in the 2020/21 academic year. The data analysis phase was conducted using the Miles and Huberman method and the Academic Advisor theory. As academic advisors, the results indicate that Arabic language lecturers play three crucial roles: motivators, initiators, and problem solvers. This research has implications for academic advising policies and on-time student graduation.
