The Early Adhesion Effects of Human Gingival Fibroblasts on Bovine Serum Albumin Loaded Hydrogenated Titanium Nanotube Surface

Abstract: The soft tissue sealing at the transmucal portion of implants is vital for the long-term stability of implants. Hydrogenated titanium nanotubes (H2-TNTs) as implant surface treatments were proved to promote the adhesion of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) and have broad usage as drug delivery systems. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) as the most abundant albumin in body fluid was crucial for cell adhesion and was demonstrated as a normal loading protein. As the first protein arriving on the surface of the implant, … Show more

“…It is one component of the tissue-culture media, and a scaffold based on albumin should work well for cell and tissue engineering because it can provide structural support [ 6 , 7 , 8 ]. It has also been suggested as a biomaterial scaffold for in-vivo implants [ 9 ] and in-vitro culture of fibroblasts, osteoblasts, and other cells [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. With good cell viability, photocurable albumin hydrogels demonstrated tunable physiological characteristics over swelling, mechanical properties, and degradation [ 14 , 15 , 16 ].…”

“…Proteins and peptides are of significant interest among them, not only due to their impact on tissue regeneration (as they are a basic component of the cells) but also for their role in enzymatic catalysis, metabolic processes, signal transduction, and immune response. Human serum albumin (HSA) is one of the most abundant proteins in human plasma that performs dozens of important functions, including the transport of amino acids, fatty acids, steroids, and drugs; regulation of pH and oncotic blood pressure [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. It also removes harmful factors for the cell’s survival, such as reactive oxygen species, and protects them against lysis (in low concentrations such as 1 g/L), making it an excellent molecule for both in vitro (maintaining the eucaryotic cell cultures) and in vivo conditions.…”

“…Due to the resemblance of the structure to HSA, bovine serum albumin (BSA) is one of the most used model proteins for studying the reaction of the human organism to biomaterials. It can be used both as the ion or drug carrier as well as the modifier itself (e.g., in a sustained delivery system for promoting early adhesion of the human gingival fibroblasts) [ 5 , 6 ].…”

“…After drug loading, TNTs can play a nano role in tumor cells and improve the effect of a single drug on tumor treatment (Liao et al, 2020;Liu et al, 2022). In addition, Sun et al proved that TNTs carrier has no effect on drug stability and is non-toxic and harmless to the body itself (Hasanzadeh Kafshgari et al, 2019;Sun et al, 2021).…”
