The effect of circuit resistance training on plasma levels of amino acids, alpha-hydroxybutyrate, mannose, and urinary levels of glycine conjugated adducts in obese adolescent boys

Abstract: Few studies have examined the improving effects of exercise on the association between metabolites of impaired protein metabolism and insulin resistance in obese children. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of circuit resistance training (CRT) on plasma levels of amino acids, alpha-hydroxybutyrate (α-HB), mannose, and urinary levels of glycine conjugated adducts in obese adolescent boys. Forty obese adolescent boys (BMI above the 95th percentile) with an age range of 14-17 were randomly divid… Show more

“…After excluding 1080 records due to their irrelevance to the research question, 1657 were considered eligible for full‐text assessment (Figure 1). A total of 116 articles 24–139 describing 114 independent trials were included in this systematic review and meta‐analysis with 23 articles examining children or adolescents, 24–46 30 articles examining young adults, 47–76 38 articles examining middle‐aged adults,…”

“…Of the 1495 articles screened after duplicates were removed, 55 met our inclusion criteria (eTable 1 in Supplement 1). Figure 1 illustrates the identification, screening, and inclusion process. The Cohen κ statistic for interrater reliability was 0.84 (95% CI, 0.72 to 0.96).…”

“…Baseline characteristics of participants are presented in eTable 1 in Supplement 1. Most studies were RCTs, but 8 were RCTs with no control group . Although most studies included both boys and girls in their samples, 11 studies included only boys and 9 included only girls .…”

“…Table 1 shows the characteristics of the 27 included studies, which included a sample of 1268 randomized subjects (695 were randomized to the exercise group); the mean age was 12.6 years (range 5.1-17.0 years). The authors classified the subjects as obese according to different classifications, such as BMI above the 95th percentile [21][22][23][24][25][26][27] ; BMI above the 97th percentile for age and sex alone [28][29][30][31] or in combination with body fat percentage >25% 28,32 or >34% 33 ; body fat percentage > 30% 34,35 ; BMI adjusted for age and gender 36 ; BMI ≥ 24 37,38 ; BMI ≥ 25 38,39 ; BMI ≥ 30 [40][41][42] ; BMI two standard deviations above the growth reference alone, 43 or in combination with waist circumference >80 cm 44 ; or presence of obesity according to the International Obesity Task Force cut-offs. 45 Nine studies included males only, [24][25][26][27]32,34,38,39,43 seven studies included females only, 23,31,33,35,42,44,…”
