“…SAM/SAH measurement was adapted from She et al [55] with separation on a Revolve C18 at 40 • C with the following gradient: 0-10 min 95% A, 5% B; 20 min 30% A, 70% B; 35-45 min 95% A, 5% B with (A) 20mM phosphate buffer with 8mM OSA (pH 2.7, TFA adjusted) and (B) methanol. In 0.1 g of pooled whole-body swim-up fry, pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine were measured by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) [56] and vitamin B12 and total folate were analyzed microbiologically using Lactobacillus delruceckii ssp. lactis and Lactobacillus rhamnosus, respectively, as previously described [57].…”

“…Pyridoxine deficiency in salmon fingerlings is characterized by increased mortality, 'shock syndrome' behavioural changes, degenerative changes in kidneys, ovary and liver, paucity of the thyroid colloid and hyperplasia of haematopoietic tissue in the kidney (Herman, 1985). In addition, Albrektsen et al (1994a) showed that deficient fingerlings had reduced lipid content in the muscle, reduced n-3 PUFA in liver phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine and reduced activity of aspartate aminotransferase in the liver. The requirement for pyridoxine in juvenile salmon is covered by adding 5 mg kg −1 to a practical fish-meal-based diet (Albrektsen et al, 1994a).…”

“…The current results point to an active oxidation also of 20:5n-3 in the Atlantic salmon liver. Moreover, activity of the ∆6and ∆5-desaturation enzymes has been established in Atlantic salmon liver (Albrektsen et al 1994) and in fibroblastlike Atlantic salmon cells (Tocher & Dick 1990a,b). The decreased 20:5n-3 and increased 22:6n-3 levels in liver compared with the diets can thus be related to the ∆6-desaturation, elongation and retroconversion of 20:5n-3 to 22:6n-3 in the liver.…”
