The Effect of Different Fly Ash and Vanadium Carbide Contents on the Various Properties of Hypereutectic Al-Si Alloys-Based Hybrid Nanocomposites

Abstract: Recently, the attention of scientists has been devoted to improving the various properties of aluminum alloys such as strength, elastic modulus, and wear and corrosion. In this respect, the preparation of hybrid nanocomposites containing two ceramic reinforcements is a promising strategy for enhancing the aformentioned properties for use in various industrial applications. Therefore, powder metallurgy technique was used to manufacture hybrid nanocomposites from Al-Si matrix reinforced with different weight per… Show more

“…At a low reinforcement content, AA2024-D3, the hardness was slightly increased compared to the rolled sheets of AA2024 alloy as produced. When the content was increased to 24%, AA2024-D1, the hardness increased sharply, as shown in Figure 6a-this contribution is consistent with [42]. The improvement in hardness was 11%, 22%, and 60% for AA2024-D3, AA2024-D2, and AA2024-D1, respectively (Figure 6b).…”

“…On the other hand, the addition of reinforcing agents from the ceramic phase (TiB) within Al 5052 by the FSP process improved the final US and YS according to the strengthening mechanisms. Nevertheless, a decrease followed it in L, which is consistent with much of the literature dealing with the improvement of the mechanical properties of Al alloys by the addition of different ceramics [4,5,42]. Moreover, the homogeneous distribution of TiB 2 particles in the Al alloy may obstruct the dislocation motion.…”

“…Many techniques can improve the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys. Reinforcing particles and additives are essential approaches for improving the performance of these alloys [1][2][3][4]. Modification elements such as Ti, B, and B 4 C have significantly affected the grain refinement's microstructure [5].…”

“…Because of this, many have sought to use coating treatment methods as they are repeatable and can greatly extend the operational lifespans (especially in wear prone environments) of Al-based components. Such methods include but are not limited to anodizing, physical vapor deposition, plasma electrolytic oxidation, powder sintering, additive laser surface treatments and chromium electroplating [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. Through the utilization of these methods, the wear resistance of Al can be greatly improved, thus annually saving millions across a widespread of industries [18].…”
