The Effect of Giving Extract Etanol of Kepok Banana Peel (Musa Acuminata) toward total Cholesterol Level on Male Mice (Mus Musculus L.) Strain Deutschland-denken-yoken (ddy) Obese

Abstract: Obesity is excess of weight due to accumulation of fat which can cause dyslipidemia. One of dyslipidemia sign is increasing of total cholesterol level. The saponin, tannin and flavonoid as antioxidants components within kepok banana peel are predicted could decrease total cholesterol level. This study aims to determine whether saponin, tannin and flavonoid in kepok banana peels are effective against total cholesterol level in obese mice. This study was a true experimental using 20 obese male mice (Mus musculus… Show more

“…For instance, the higher quantity of ash can be valuable in treating deficiencies of minerals caused by celiac disease (Presutti et al 2007). Additionally, several studies have shown the application of BPe as a low-cost precursor for producing materials such as anionic dye and heavy metal adsorbents (Mahindrakar and Rathod 2018;Munagapati et al 2018;Oyewo et al 2018;Singh et al 2018;Vilardi et al 2018), recovering phenolic compounds (Vu et al 2018), producing cellulose nanofibers (Costa et al 2018;Harini et al 2018;Tibolla et al 2018), as well as bioethanol (Berawi and Bimandama 2018;Prakash et al 2018) and pectin extract (Khamsucharit et al 2018). In the following sections, some of the exclusive added value components in banana are introduced.…”

“…This finding revealed the effectiveness of the peel extract in inhibiting the atherosclerotic process via suppressing the expression of chemo-attractant molecules and monocyte adhesion and thus the peel extract may be considered a novel therapeutic agent in preventing atherosclerosis [43]. A related study was conducted by [44], in which the effect of saponin, tannin, and flavonoid present in Kepok banana peel against total cholesterol level in obese male mice was measured. The researchers divided 20 obese male mice (Mus musculus L.) into four groups and treated them for 14 days.…”
