“…Generally, in Polish Merino sheep oestrous behaviour occurred between 33 and 34 weeks of age. Our previous observations confirmed that under normal environmental and nutritional conditions, the onset of puberty in Polish Merino lambs born in early February occurs at the age of 33 weeks (Wójcik‐Gładysz et al., ). The animals were randomly divided into two experimental groups: a control group, receiving an intracerebroventricular (icv) infusion of Ringer‐Locke solution (artificial cerebrospinal fluid, 120 μl/hr, n = 14), and an obestatin group, receiving an icv infusion of obestatin (Goat/Ovine Obestatin, Phoenix Pharmaceuticals Inc, Belmont, CA) diluted in Ringer‐Locke solution ( n = 14) for a total dose of 100 μg/day, at infusion rate of 120 μl/hr.…”

“…Moreover, NPY neurons in the ARC nucleus are primary targets for many orexigenic and anorexigenic peripheral hormones (Gładysz, Krejci, Simůnek, & Polkowska, ; Tillet et al., ). Our previous studies confirmed that peripheral peptides, such as leptin and ghrelin, are involved in the modulation of hypothalamic appetite‐regulating network activity in sheep, and this modulation occurs via NPY neurons in the ARC nucleus (Polkowska, Gajewska, Wańkowska, Misztal, & Wójcik‐Gładysz, ; Tillet et al., ; Wójcik‐Gładysz, Wańkowska, Misztal, Romanowicz, & Polkowska, ; Wójcik‐Gładysz et al., ). Considering above information, at least one hypothalamic pathway consists of NPY neurons, and the NPY neuronal system integrates the final pathway regulating food intake (Schneeberger, Gomis, & Claret, ).…”

“…Neuropeptide Y (NPY), agouti-related peptide (AgRP) and proopiomelanocortin (POMC) mRNA expression increased after BDNF intracerebroventricular (ICV) infusion (Przybył et al, 2020). On the other hand, our previous research demonstrated that several factors involved in appetite regulation processes, such as NPY, ghrelin and obestatin, can change the somatotrophic axis hormones secretory activity in sheep (Wójcik-Gładysz et al, 2014Szlis et al, 2018). It is well-known that the activity of the somatotrophic axis in the CNS may also be modulated by several factors, such as drugs, antibiotics and neurotrophins (Timmusk et al, 1993;Patapoutian and Reichardt, 2001;Kennedy, 2012).…”
