The effect of ozonation on dissolved oxygen and microbiological content in refill drinking water

Abstract: One indicator of safe drinking water is its microbiological content of 0 colonies/100 ml. Ozonation is one method for killing microbes contained in drinking water. Disinfection in refillable drinking water that uses ozone needs to be studied, considering that the drinking water put into used gallons is washed again and can be drunk directly by consumers. It should be suspected that the drinking water used from drinking refill water contains bacteria, a dangerous virus. So the purpose of this study is to find o… Show more

“…Therefore, water quality can be estimated by measuring dissolved oxygen level. As per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guideline, if dissolved oxygen concentration reaches 3 mg/L, it is considered to be danger zone for aquatic life and levels below 1 mg/L are unfavourable to aquatic life, whereas dissolved oxygen level concentration 8-9 mg/L support all aquatic life (fish and plants) (“Indicators: Dissolved Oxygen | US EPA,” 2022; Sofia, 2020). The above AOPs were performed for the first time to reduce SARS-CoV-2 from sewage water, and further studies are essential to implement these techniques for the treatment of sewage water at actual STP.…”

“…Ozonation disinfects treated wastewater to undetectable SARS-CoV-2 levels, is inexpensive and has wide uses within consumption, agriculture, recreation and groundwater remediation ( Echeverry Ibarra et al, 2008 ; Remondino and Valdenassi, 2018 ; Sofia, 2020 ; Volkoff et al 2020 ). For example, a small ozone concentration of 0.6 ppm in water decreased SARS-CoV-2 infectivity within a minute while 1 mg/L reduced up to 81.4% of SARS-CoV-2 within up to 10 seconds ( Inagaki et al, 2021 ; Martins et al, 2021).…”
