The Effect of Realistic Mathematic Approach on Students’ Learning Motivation

Abstract: This research is to determine the effect of realistic mathematical approach on students’ learning motivation. The research method is pre-experiment of one group pretest posttest design. This study was conducted with 34 fifth grade students from a public school in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. The results indicate that students’ learning motivation significantly increases. “…According to this study, the authors recommend that all the students have to change their perspectives about considering mathematics is a difficult subject and should be more pro-active in learning and understanding mathematics in order to improve their mathematical literacy skills. Some sort of learning instructions need to be developed such as learning based on realistic mathematics education (Lestari, Syahrilfuddin, Putra, & Hermita, 2019), or using media in learning mathematics (Winanda, Putra, & Zufriady, 2020).…”

“…From the results of observations by filling out the evaluation sheet on one person and twenty four students as well as interviews with the teacher, researchers got information that the learning material was less creative and less effective before the Covid-19 pandemic. This results in a lack of student motivation, so that it has an impact on learning processes and outcomes (Yullys, 2019;Lestari et al, 2019). Therefore, it is necessary to develop teaching materials on arithmetic operations for third grade students.…”

“…"Reasoning is the soul of mathematics" (Burnyeat, 2000), because Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Mathematics is all around us, in everything we do (Lestari et al, 2019) In this research, the researcher was Integrated Hawgent Dynamic Mathematics Software to discuss the calculation of the volume of a cone. In the teaching process, based on The APOS theory (Xiaodan, 2020), APOS theory is constructiveness mathematics learning theory proposed by American scholared Dubinsky (1993).…”
