“…The acute reduction in blood pressure was accompanied by a transient stimulation of the sympathetic system and by a slight transient rise in heart rate [De Cr6e et al, 1981, 1985aDemoulin et al, 1981;Fagard et al, 1984;Wenting et al, 1984;and unpublished data]. Intravenous antihypertensive treatment with ketanserin was found useful in pre-and postoperative hypertension and in hypertensive crises in preeclampsia [Montenegro et al, 1985;Van der Starre et al, 1983;Weiner, 1985;and unpublished data].…”

“…Earlier studies with ketanserin in hypertensive pregnant women suggested that serotonin may have a role in the modulation of pre‐eclampsia 20,21 . Weiner et al 21 Montenegro et al 22 and Hulme et al 23 have demonstrated that ketanserin is effective in reducing blood pressure in intrapartum and postpartum preeclamptics. In a study of antepartum women Dekker and van Geijn 20 showed that intravenous ketanserin is effective in achieving satisfactory blood pressure control in women with severe pre‐eclampsia resistant to conventional vasodilating medication.…”

“…Pharmacologic and méthodologie advances over the last decade have re sulted in a body of information implicating serotonin as a mediator in the genesis of preeclamptic hypertension [7], Recently, several reports have demonstrated that ketanserin is effective in the treatment of hypertension in preeclampsia. After ketanserin treatment, a signifi cant and comparable decrease in blood pressure was noted and no adverse affects were observed in mother and fetus [8][9][10], Also, ketanserin was effective in acutely reducing elevated postpartum blood pressure in preeclamptic patients [11,12]. during the intrapartum period, ketanserin has effects on cardiac function and produces decline in blood pressure [9,10].…”
