The effect of soil type and ecosystems on the soil nematode and microbial communities

Abstract: SummaryIntegrated studies are required to better understand the relationships between groups of soil microfauna under the influence of various biotic and abiotic factors that drive and characterise ecosystems. We analysed soil nematode communities and microbial diversity and the properties of three soil types to assess the effect of these environmental variables on biological diversity in natural (forest), semi-natural (meadow), and managed (agriculture) habitats of the Slovak Republic. The type of ecosystem a… Show more

“…However, the higher abundance of Agr1 resulted from manure application. Research by Renčo et al (2020) also got the same result. The abundance of the bacterivore, fungivore, and herbivore groups has a positive correlation with soil moisture.…”

“…For instance, the level of soil compaction caused by heavy machinery during tree clear-cutting was more intense (data not shown) in the clay site (SOGB) than in the sandy site (SAPH), leading to significant consequences for soil nematodes (Shah et al 2017). Soil texture greatly affects the composition of soil nematodes at both global (van den Hoogen et al 2020) and local scales (Quist et al 2019), having a stronger impact on nematodes than climate or land management (Renčo et al 2020). Therefore, it is not surprising that texture or other physical soil properties modulate the response of nematodes over time following clear-cutting in rubber plantations.…”

“…За результатами досліджень природні ліси характеризувались високим видовим різноманіттям нематод та високою мікробною біомасою у порівнянні з напівприродними і керованими екосистемами в Словаччині (Renčo et al, 2020). Дослідження ґрунтів різного призначення господарських угідь в Кенії також дало цікаві результати для можливості порівняння нематод деградованих екосистем та екосистем, що знаходяться у природньому стані.…”
