The diversity of butterflies’ family of Nymphalidae and Pieridae at Cirengganis area and Cikamal Savannah area of Pananjung Sanctuary of PangandaranThe research reported the diversity o.f butterflies of Nymphalidae and Pieridae Families at Cirengganis area and Cikamal Savannah area which located at Pananjung Sanctuary, Pangandaran. The experiment was conducted using visual encounter survey method. The butterflies were caught using sweeping technique. The butterflies were collected and identified. Abiotic factors such light intensity and temperature were measured during observation. The result showed that 13 species of nymphalidae family were identified whilst only 2 species were identified belongs to the family of Pieridae. Butterfly diversity index at Cirengganis and Cikamal Savannah categorized as moderate with value of 2.285647. Vegetation that interacted with the butterflies were Tectona grandis), Psychotria aurantiaca, and Melastoma malabathricum. Furthermore, light intensity and temperature at Cirengganis were detected at 12473.33 lux and 28.6oC, respectively. While at Cikamal Savannah, the light intensity was measured at 26900 lux and temperature reached 33.6oC.Keywords: Visual encounter survey, Abiotic factor, VegetationABSTRAKPenelitian ini melaporkan mengenai keanekaragaman Jenis Kupu-Kupu Famili Nymphalidae dan Pieridae di kawasan Cirengganis dan Padang Rumput Cikamal Cagar Alam Pananjung Pangandaran. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode Visual Encounter Survey (VES). Penangkapan kupu-kupu dilakukan dengan teknik sweeping. Kupu-kupu yang diperoleh dikoleksi dan diidentifikasi. Faktor abiotik seperti intensitas cahaya dan suhu diukur selama pengamatan. Serta diamati pula vegetasi sekitar lokasi pengamatan yang berinteraksi dengan kupu-kupu. Hasil pengamatan diperoleh total kupu-kupu famili Nymphalidae sebanyak 13 spesies dan kupu-kupu famili Pieridae sebanyak 2 spesies. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman kupu-kupu di kawasan Cirengganis dan Padang Rumput Cikamal tergolong kategori sedang yaitu 2,285647. Hasil vegetasi yang diketahui berinteraksi dengan kupu-kupu yaitu jati (Tectona grandis), ki kores (Psychotria aurantiaca), dan harendong (Melastoma malabathricum). Sementara rata-rata intensitas cahaya dan suhu di Cirengganis sebesar 12473,33 lux dan 28,6oC dan di Padang Rumput Cikamal sebesar 26900 lux dan 33,6oC.Kata Kunci: Visual Encounter Survey, Faktor abiotik, Vegetasi
Abstract. Nanotechnology plays an important role in providing opportunities and possibilities for the development of a plant extracts, particularly applied for agriculture using the organic nanoparticles extract as bioinsecticide. This paper reports the extraction of L. camaraas an insecticidal compound applied to control the S. litura larvae which is the main pest for agricultural commodities in Indonesia. The objective of this research is to evaluate the toxicity performance of nano extract to S. litura larvae. The extract was prepared by maceration and evaporation and followed by particles stabilization. The received suspension was characterized using a Particles Size Analyzer (PSA). The performance evaluation was conducted using dye feed method by observing at 24 h and 48 h. The toxicity performance of L. camara nano extract on S. litura larvae was evaluated based on the lethal concentration which was obtained at 50% of 3 rd instar larvae S. litura (LC 50 ) and the toxicity level. The larval mortality data was analyzed by probit analysis to obtain LC 50 values. The results showed that the LC 50 value of L. camara nano extract after 24 h was 16,347 ppm and after 48 h the LC 50 value was 3,548 ppm. The smaller LC 50 values indicate a stronger toxicity level, in contrast the best toxicity was LC 50 after 48 h with the concentration of 3,548 ppm. Referring to toxicity category standard with LC 50 pesticide value, the range 0.5-5 g/L is considered as medium toxic category. Toxicity level of L. camara nano extract to S. litura 3,548 ppm or 3,548 mg/L is considered as medium toxic category.
The productivity of vegetable crops is constrained by insect pests. The search for alternative insect pest control is becoming increasingly important and is including the use of plant-derived pesticides. Plant-derived pesticides are reported as effective in controlling various insect pests through natural mechanisms, with biodegradable organic materials, diverse bioactivity, and low toxicity to non-target organisms. An antifeedant approach for insect control in crop management has been comprehensively studied by many researchers, though it has only been restricted to plant-based compounds and to the laboratory level at least. Nano-delivery formulations of biopesticides offer a wide variety of benefits, including increased effectiveness and efficiency (well-dispersion, wettability, and target delivery) with the improved properties of the antifeedant. This review paper evaluates the role of the nano-delivery system in antifeedant obtained from various plant extracts. The evaluation includes the research progress of antifeedant-based nano-delivery systems and the bioactivity performances of different types of nano-carrier formulations against various insect pests. An antifeedant nano-delivery system can increase their bioactivities, such as increasing sublethal bioactivity or reducing toxicity levels in both crude extracts/essential oils (EOs) and pure compounds. However, the plant-based antifeedant requires nanotechnological development to improve the nano-delivery systems regarding properties related to the bioactive functionality and the target site of insect pests. It is highlighted that the formulation of plant extracts creates a forthcoming insight for a field-scale application of this nano-delivery antifeedant due to the possible economic production process.
