The Effect of Using a Metal Tube on Laser Welding of the Battery Case and the Tab for Lithium-Ion Battery

Abstract: Given the drawbacks of the conventional welding methods in joining the battery case and tab in the lithium-ion battery, the laser welding technique using the metal tube has been introduced for the weld. The metal tube is supposed to contribute a positive effect including protection to the outside structure by blocking the injection of the spatters, and minimization of the contact gap between the battery case and table. However, the use of the metal tube is believed to cause the plume trapped inside and affect … Show more

“…Several decay functions can be used to describe the change in K and n along the weld to the base metal. For convenience, two typical decay functions-exponential functions were used to describe this changing law, as shown in Equations ( 6) and (7). K = 938.986 + 5611805.656e −8.441α (6)…”

“…As a typical raw blank, thin-walled welded tubes are increasingly being applied in aviation (the intake and exhaust systems of advanced fighters), aerospace (lunar rover torus receptacle) and automotive industries (automotive sub-frame) due to their attractive benefits of low production costs, high manufacturing efficiency and reliable quality [4,5]. Welded tubes can be manufactured via various welding processes, including laser welding, arc welding and resistance welding [6][7][8]. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the weld zone and the heat-affected zone (HAZ) are significantly influenced by thermal cycling during welding [9].…”

“…Laser-aided manufacturing (LAM) has been widely employed to overcome the disadvantages of previous techniques in various fields, including car manufacturing, aerospace, and semiconductor [4][5][6]. Due to its advantages (e.g., high precision, high speed, noncontact method, remote control capabilities), the applicability of LAM has also been investigated on concrete.…”
