Modification of Java bentonite assists by the multi-step intercalation of sodium and ammonium ions under lowtemperature preparation. The adsorbent was examined to remove rhodamine B and methylene blue dyes in an aqueous solvent. The analysis of structural changes conducted by XRD analysis showed the peak shifting from 19.89° to 16.1° and specific peak spectra FTIR of 2846.93 cm -1 due to increase basal spacing from ammonium intercalation. The total capacities of NH-bentonite, Na-bentonite, and Natural Bentonite adsorption to rhodamine B were 192.308 mg/g, 136.936 mg/g, and 116.279 mg/g, respectively, under acidic conditions. Furthermore, the total capacities of NH-bentonite, Na-bentonite, and Natural Bentonite adsorption to methylene blue were 270.27 mg/g, 158.73 mg/g, and 136.986 mg/g, respectively, under alkaline conditions. The adsorption mechanism described that the rhodamine B and methylene blue removal occurred endothermically, was feasible, and adhered to the kinetics model of pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherm. It concluded that the modified Java Bentonite from multistep intercalation is affordable and effective as wastewater treatment.

The use of methanol over ZSM-5 and modified catalysts for the production of light olefins has emerged as an effective new strategy for this industry. In the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) process, the challenges are maintaining product selectivity and prolonging the lifetime of the catalyst catalyst manufacturing become. The effect of strontium (Sr) and lanthanum (La) impregnated over the ZSM-5 catalyst on MTO conversion was investigated in this study. The results showed that the metals impregnated on ZSM-5 had influenced its acidity strength and improved catalyst activity and lifetime in the MTO process. When a metal strontium of 5 wt.% was impregnated, the quantity of Bronsted acid sites (BAS) in the parent ZSM-5 was reduced to 81.53%. The catalyst 5La-ZSM-5 modified improved the selectivity of light olefin ca. 88% and high conversion methanol 100% for 15 h time-on-stream. The sequence of catalyst activity was 5La-ZSM-5 > 3La-ZSM-5 > 5Sr-ZSM-5 > 3Sr-ZSM-5 > parent-ZSM-5. The role of metal (Sr/La) impregnated over ZSM-5 is important for reducing acidity and prolonging activity catalyst from 7 to 14 h.

The Effectiveness of Pahae Natural Zeolite–Cocoa Shell Activated Charcoal Nanofilter as a Water Adsorber in Bioethanol Purification

Pahae natural zeolite potentially can be used as a filtration material because of its high adsorption capacity. However, it is known that other supportive materials such as activated charcoal are needed to optimize the utilization of natural zeolite as an adsorber. This study aims to investigate the potential use of activated charcoal which was synthesized from cocoa shells waste and natural zeolite in nanosize as the adsorber in order to increase the concentration of bioethanol. The mixing process of nanozeolite and activated charcoal of cocoa shells was carried out through mechanical mixing, while the nanofilter was made using a press-printing technique followed by sintering at several temperature variations. The results showed that the activated zeolite produced in this study has a particle size of 118.4 nm with water absorption capacity of 52.08%. In line with that, the bioethanol concentration was increased up to 78.92% during the adsorption with a 45 min contact time with water vapor. Thus, based on the results, it can be concluded that nanosized zeolite-based adsorbents and activated charcoal produced from cocoa shells can be utilized as adsorbers to significantly increase the concentration of bioethanol generated.
